We are looking for undergraduate research students and graduate students to join the laboratory. Students from other universities, from national colleges of technology (KOSEN), and from abroad are all welcome \u2014 our current graduate students come from 12 different institutions<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How We Supervise<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Undergraduate research<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

The goal is for each student to build one complete system alone and put it into operation<\/strong>. Which system you work on is decided through discussion. Alongside what you have learned in coursework, you will take on machining, analogue circuit construction and programming with software widely used in industry. Through this you come to understand \u2014 first-hand \u2014 both how difficult and how interesting system design is, and you develop the initiative to work in any field.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Graduate research<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Graduate students are supervised to approach their research from both sides \u2014 hardware and software<\/strong>: building real equipment and validating it through experiment, and modelling it through computer simulation. The aim is to build the breadth of knowledge and the initiative that will let you contribute wherever you go after leaving the laboratory.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We welcome people who work well with others, who are curious, and who are eager to do research.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What You Need to Know Beforehand<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

No particular prior knowledge is required.<\/strong> What we ask for is interest in research, enthusiasm, initiative and the ability to work with others \u2014 and above all, a willingness to try things before deciding you do not like them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In this laboratory you will program in languages such as MATLAB and LabVIEW, machine parts on a drill press, and build analogue circuits yourself. Students who knew none of this when they arrived have all ended up handling it comfortably by the end.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
